چکیده

The mechanical and rheological behaviour of particulate granular assemblies is significantly influenced by the shape their individual particles. We present a code that implements characterisation three-dimensional particles in an automated rigorous manner, allowing for processing samples composed thousands irregular within affordable time runs. input particle geometries can be provided one following forms: segmented labelled images, surface meshes, tetrahedral meshes or point-clouds. These complemented with texture profiles. Shape implemented three key aspects shape, namely roughness, roundness form. Also, simplified shapes are generated which used numerical simulations to characterise assemblies, using approaches such as Discrete Element method Molecular Dynamics. Combining these two features framework, allows not only original material but also monitor how its morphological characteristics change according chosen fidelity level application interest. Engineering particle trajectories in microfluidic flows using particle shape.

Recent advances in microfluidic technologies have created a demand for techniques to control the motion of flowing microparticles. Here we consider how the shape and geometric confinement of a rigid microparticle can be tailored for 'self-steering' under external flow. We find that an asymmetric particle, weakly confined in one direction and strongly confined in another, will align with the flo...

ISOGEOMETRIC STRUCTURAL SHAPE OPTIMIZATION USING PARTICLE SWARM ALGORITHM

One primary problem in shape optimization of structures is making a robust link between design model (geometric description) and analysis model. This paper investigates the potential of Isogeometric Analysis (IGA) for solving this problem. The generic framework of shape optimization of structures is presented based on Isogeometric analysis. By discretization of domain via NURBS functions, the a...

Shape oscillations of particle-coated bubbles and directional particle expulsion

Bubbles stabilised by colloidal particles can find applications in advanced materials, catalysis and drug delivery. For applications in controlled release, it is desirable to remove the particles from the interface in a programmable fashion. We have previously shown that ultrasound waves excite volumetric oscillations of particle-coated bubbles, resulting in precisely timed particle expulsion d...

Shape Particle Guided Tissue Classification

In many cases, the accuracy of statistical pixel classification can be improved by applying a spatially varying prior that can be derived from a shape model. We propose to represent the prior knowledge on the spatial distribution of tissue classes by a distribution of shape particles, each representing one possible distribution of tissue classes. Classification and shape can then be optimized j...

OPTIMUM SHAPE DESIGN OF DOUBLE-LAYER GRIDS BY QUANTUM BEHAVED PARTICLE SWARM OPTIMIZATION AND NEURAL NETWORKS

In this paper, a methodology is presented for optimum shape design of double-layer grids subject to gravity and earthquake loadings. The design variables are the number of divisions in two directions, the height between two layers and the cross-sectional areas of the structural elements. The objective function is the weight of the structure and the design constraints are some limitations on str...
